Crockpot Overnight Apple Cinnamon Steel Cut Oats Recipe

Mornings are typically hectic, and getting breakfast on the table is just one more thing to do. This overnight steel cut oats recipe is ready in the morning when you are. Chop the pecans and apple the night before, sprinkle with a little lemon juice and store in an airtight container.

This recipe calls for steel cut oats. If you use any other type of oats the cook time will be incorrect, so don’t substitute any other type of oats. To prevent the oats from sticking to the sides of the crockpot, use a crockpot liner or grease the crockpot prior to adding the oats.

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 6-8 hours
Serves: 4-6

1 c. steel cut oats
1 c. fresh apple cider
3 c. water (use a combo of water and milk for creamier oatmeal)
2 medium apples, cored and diced
1½ T. honey or maple syrup
1 t. ground cinnamon
½ t. ground nutmeg
½ t. ground allspice
½ t. sea salt

To serve:

Finely diced apple
Chopped pecans
Maple syrup

  • Core and dice the apples.
  • Add the steel cut oats, apple cider, water (or water and milk combo), the apples, honey or maple, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and sea salt to a greased or lined crockpot. Stir to combine.
  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours, checking for doneness after about 5 hours.
  • Allow the oatmeal to cool slightly, then spoon into bowls and top with diced apples, pecans, raisins and maple syrup.
